Science in Sport was set-up by a Sports Scientist and Cyclist with the support and involvement of his family, for the “product quality” reasons currently causing concern to athletes and sportspersons.

To date Science in Sport has achieved ISO 9000 Certification covering the Design and Development of its Products, Their manufacture at its own dedicated facility, and the marketing processes of the Company.  Science in Sport is the first company to meet the Organic Farmers and Growers Federation organic classification standards with its organic sports drinks.

We want to do things right.
So, from the beginning, the object has been to make the best possible products that are true to the science and their claims. We never really wanted a production company but, after some experiences with contract manufacturers, we figured that the only way to ensure that the products “had in them what we wanted in them” and “had nothing in them that we did not want in them” would be to do it ourselves. 

We have always put quality first.
Science in Sport continues to do its own manufacture in order to have full control over the specification and procurement of ingredients, and the manufacturing processes. This is in order to ensure that only high quality products, manufactured correct to specification, bear the Science in Sport name. 

To be absolutely sure“we do it ourselves”.
We still operate “small batch production” in order to assist with quality control. This is not the most cost effective production method, but it helps to ensure that only consistent and high quality products are produced. Our procedures call for spot checks to be carried out on our products by independent testing.

Certificates of Compliance, and Certificates of Conformity are available for all our products, and we provide further reassurance to our customers, in respect of the quality of our products, by guaranteeing the quality on the Product Warranty Form,

Banned Substances (Drugs)
Many companies state that they use pharmaceutical grade products but this alone does not guarantee that they are “drug free”. However, based upon our experience, and under advice, pharmaceutical grade products are unlikely to be contaminated with banned substances when procured from reputable European Sources, under contract specifying they must be free from banned substances, and delivered with the relevant certificate of analysis/certificate of conformity.
Whilst we have no experience of contaminated ingredients, our investigations and enquiries lead us to believe that where ingredients have been shown to be contaminated it is usually ingredients of Chinese Origin, and /or ingredients produced by companies that produce many different food ingredients or pharmaceutical chemicals on the same production line. It is also possible, particularly when you do not have full control over production processes, (Sub-Contract Manufacture) that the final products can be similarly contaminated.
Science in Sport researches, designs, develops and manufactures it own products, and has full control over the production, and procurement of ingredients and packaging, processes. We have a very strict procedure for the approval of ingredient (and packaging) suppliers. We also have very strict procedures for the specification, selection, and approval of ingredients prior to approval and purchase of the ingredient, that includes the completion of an ingredient features questionnaire by each supplier and/or manufacturer and subsequent discussions with the supplier/ manufacturer. Banned substances are, of course, highlighted on the questionnaire, and we ensure that the manufacturer does not otherwise produce banned substances (or herbal remedies, etc.) on the same production lines, and preferably not at all. Consequently we are able to offer, and support, our warranty that “Science in Sport Products are free from banned substances”, and most importantly able to obtain substantial Product Liability Insurance Cover.

We also include in our Quality Management System the spot checking of ingredients by analysis, to gain further confidence in our control procedures. 
Hence, we are as confident as you can be that “all the ingredients we use in our products are free from banned substances”.

Quality Control in Manufacture
Turning to our manufacturing processes, we are equally confident that accidental or adventitious contamination will not occur since we do not make any products that could cause a positive dope test. As an ethical Sports Nutrition Company we have never got involved in pro-hormone products or herbal formulae, and there are no products at our production unit that could cause a positive test, and hence no possibility of contamination from such sources. Consequently, even in the unlikely event of a complete procedural and quality control breakdown, it would not be possible to produce products at our production facility that could cause a positive dope test.
We certify and warrant that our products are free from banned substances.
Whilst we have no experience of contaminated products, our investigations and enquiries lead us to believe that, where food supplements have been shown to be contaminated, it is possible that contamination has occurred because products containing banned substances, herbal remedies, etc., have been produced on the same production line. 

Warranty and Certification
Science in Sport warrants that its products do not contain substances known to be banned by the IOC. 
Customers can rest assured that Science in Sport will continue to strive to ensure the availability of high quality “drug free” products, warranted to be drug free, and certified “correct to specification”, and certified compliant with the relevant regulations.
